Privacy policy

Intro holds some personal things: birthdays, birth times, birthplaces, and what you tell it about how you think and love. This page says exactly what we keep, why, and how to get it back or get rid of it.

Who we are

Intro is run by Matthew Johnston, trading as Intro, who is responsible for your data (the “controller” under UK data protection law). For anything on this page, email support@intro-app.io.

What we collect about you

  • Your account: your email address and a password. The password is stored only as a secure hash by our login provider; we never see it.
  • Your Intro: your name, date of birth, and, if you add them, your birth time, birthplace (the place name and its map coordinates) and timezone. We use these to calculate your astrology, numerology and Chinese zodiac.
  • Your answers: when you take a quiz or survey, your answers are used once to work out your result, then thrown away. We keep the result (for example your type or love language), not the answers.
  • Your choices: which details show on your shareable card, and who you’re connected to.

What you tell us about other people

Intro lets you add people you know: their name, date of birth and, if you know them, birth time and birthplace. We calculate their lenses from those details so you can compare. Please only add people you actually know.

  • A profile you add is private to you. It isn’t shown to anyone else, and it isn’t on a public card.
  • If you invite that person and they join, they get their own Intro, and your profile of them shows what they choose to share from then on.
  • If someone has added you and you’d like that removed, email support@intro-app.io and we’ll remove it. You don’t need an account to ask.

Your shareable card

Your card is the one thing designed to be seen by others. Anyone with its link can view it, and you choose what it shows. It never shows your date of birth, birth time, birthplace or birth year, and it never shows your life path number together with your Chinese zodiac animal, because together they would give your birth year away.

Card links don’t expire yet. If you want a link to stop working, email support@intro-app.io and we’ll disable it.

Usage analytics

To improve Intro we count how it’s used: which screens people open, and steps like finishing a lens or copying an invite link. We use Google Analytics and Mixpanel for this.

  • What they receive: the name of the step, a few fixed labels (such as which lens), the screen’s address with every personal part removed (for example /people/:id), device and browser type, and a random identifier. Mixpanel also receives your account’s random ID, never your email. Google Analytics works out an approximate city and country from your connection.
  • What they never receive: names, dates of birth, birth times, birthplaces, emails, your results, or the links to your card or invites. We don’t record your screen or what you type.
  • No advertising: we don’t use this data for ads, we don’t sell it, and Google’s advertising features are switched off.
  • Turn it off: Settings → Privacy → Usage analytics. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, analytics stays off automatically.

Why we’re allowed to use it

  • Your own details: to provide the service you signed up for (contract).
  • People you add: our legitimate interest, and yours, in letting you understand the people in your life. We keep those profiles private to you and remove them on request.
  • Emails we send you: a welcome when you make your Intro, and a confirmation if you delete your account, to provide the service (contract). Emails when friends join, connect or finish their Core Pattern: our legitimate interest in telling you about activity you’d expect to hear about. They contain your friend’s first name only, never birth details or results, and you can switch them off in Settings. We don’t track whether you open them.
  • Usage analytics: our legitimate interest in improving Intro, using analytics that only measures how the service is used, which UK law allows without a cookie banner. You can switch it off at any time.
  • Keeping Intro secure: our legitimate interest in preventing abuse and fixing faults.

Who helps us run Intro

These companies process data for us, only to provide their part of the service:

  • Supabase: database and login. Data is stored in the EU (Ireland).
  • Vercel: hosts the website and app, running in London.
  • Railway: runs the calculation for your Moon and Rising signs. It receives a birth date, time, timezone and coordinates, and doesn’t store them.
  • Google: Google Analytics, and the service that sends our password-reset emails.
  • Mixpanel: usage analytics, stored in the EU.
  • Resend: sends the app’s own emails (welcome, friend activity, account deleted). It receives your email address and the email’s text, and keeps a record of what was sent. Its records are stored in the US.

Some of these are US companies. Where data leaves the UK, it’s protected by the UK’s adequacy arrangements (including the UK–US data bridge) or by standard contractual safeguards.

How long we keep it

  • Your account and everything you’ve added stay until you delete them.
  • Delete your account in Settings. That removes your account, your own Intro and every person you’ve added. It can’t be undone.
  • Copies of you that other members made before you joined belong to their accounts. Ask us and we’ll remove them.
  • Google Analytics deletes usage data after 14 months. Usage data in Mixpanel is linked only to a random ID.

Cookies and storage

We use one essential cookie to keep you signed in. Your device also stores a few small settings (such as your analytics choice), and the analytics tools store a random identifier. There are no advertising cookies.

Your rights

You can ask to see the data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, take a copy of it, or object to how we use it. Most of it you can see and edit in the app. For anything else, email support@intro-app.io and we’ll respond within a month.

If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.

Children

Intro is for people aged 13 and over. If you think a child under 13 is using it, email support@intro-app.io and we’ll delete their data.

Changes

If we change what we collect or how we use it, we’ll update this page and its date, and tell you in the app if the change matters.
